Bookcase hidden door

The inner kid in me has always wanted to make a hidden bookcase door. We have this weird house set up with a utility room off a small sitting room and no door. This is an extension and they left a lovely brick wall as a feature. But it never felt like a nice sitting room with a washing machine almost in it. A door wouldn’t make the space feel small. The solution… finally make my bookcase door.

I bought a special hinge off eBay- so clever and simple. These things are always easier after you’ve done them and it was quite fiddly understanding how it works. I bought a cheap door and some wood. Note, no real up-cycling with this. Cutting and screwing everything together was pretty simple, the faff was figuring out the gaps and how the door hinges. I had to keep trimming the door. Some trial and error and I got there in the end. It can hold remarkable weight as this ain’t light. It looks great and has created two different spaces. Very happy with this project.
