We recently moved house and to my panic all the usual good places for storing wine had hot water pipes tuning through them. Not great for storing fine wine for the long term! We have some wooden storage boxes my wife doesn’t love, I combined two together and used some unused underfloor insulation, and aContinue reading “Insulated wine storage box”

Reclaimed Wooden Mantlepiece
For the eagle-eyed this wooden mantlepiece may look familiar. It was the windowsill in my old bathroom. I had sanded and cut to fit the space- https://coolupcycled.com/2021/05/31/bathroom/ Upcycled. Used again as a floating mantelpiece with some brackets.
Wardrobe to toy chest
This upcycle was not made by me- however… it was made out of my wardrobe. I had a pair of wardrobes, one you will have already seen I upcycled one for my son with some basic chalk paint and stickers. The second wardrobe had a much more extreme makeover. I offered to my neighbour, aContinue reading “Wardrobe to toy chest”
Child’s oak sword and shield
One of the chores I hate most is cleaning the shed/ work room. If I worked sensibly it would never get into such a state. Sadly I never learn. This morning I set out for a big clean, found some oak offcuts and began making a sword and shield for my son. The shield hasContinue reading “Child’s oak sword and shield”
Classic rugby ball and cricket bat
I’m not quite sure this is upcycling. It was my father’s 75th birthday last week and we are due to see him, touch wood, for the first time in ages, so this is in his honour. When my parents downsized, to his bemusement, I nabbed his old rugby ball and cricket bat. My father isContinue reading “Classic rugby ball and cricket bat”
Artillery shells and dried flowers
I’ve written before about dried flowers being placed in upcycled whisky and milk bottles. One step further are these used artillery shells. They found there way into our house when my parents downsized- I have no idea where they originally came from. For now they contain dried flowers from the garden. I quite like them.
Indian water carriers
I would love to say I found these wondering a market of the world and brought home. In reality we were in a shop full of cool bits and bobs in Southern England. It was love at first site, a slightly rash buy for us, we didn’t know what we would do with them. OneContinue reading “Indian water carriers”
Scaffolding plank hand print
Getting the baby started early with upcycling! Some chalk paint and the green hand pint to capture the wee man’s paw print.
Wicker cat dome cable tidy
One of the annoying things about British houses is that the phone sockets are always in the hall. I fondly remember my childhood sat in a freezing hall calling friends. Thankfully we now have cordless phones and you can call people from the comfort of your sofa. The problem is that the phone still needsContinue reading “Wicker cat dome cable tidy”
Losing your marbles?
Not much time to make things with a seven month old baby filling the hours. Appropriately, this week’s upcycle involves the marbles from my childhood. Placed in a vase, they make a nice ornament in our bedroom. Shame they are a horrendous dust trap. Might be a few years until it’s safe for the babyContinue reading “Losing your marbles?”
